It's hard to imagine, but at one time Christian was banned from the family carpentry workshop in Belfast. When he was 12 his grandfather, a carpenter, caught him using his treasured tools to make a “guider”. Luckily his father took a different stance (also a carpenter) and decided to train Christian in the skills that had been handed down through the generations. (His grandfather was an apprentice in the Harland & Wolff Belfast Shipyard at the time of the building of the RMS Titanic). Other than a spell in the forces Christian has spent his life in the kitchen industry, from working with his father, who was one of the first carpenters to build fitted kitchens, to working with some of the most prestigious European kitchen companies. Four years were spent learning about the Australian kitchen market, from board manufacture to design and final installation. His first love has always been design and believing a kitchen designer should be independent from the kitchen renovation companies he got together a small team of like-minded designers and started MKB.
