The Melbourne Swallow Analysis Centre (MSAC) is a new, specialist diagnostic service, equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, dedicated to the advanced assessment and treatment of swallowing disorders, from mouth to stomach.
Key team members include an ENT surgeon, a Speech Pathologist, a Gastroenterologist and our practice Nurse, all specialising in dysphagia (swallowing disorders).
Services offered include:
* Diagnosis & Treatment - A multi-disciplinary consultation with a range of diagnostic tests is available to optimise a patient's swallow.
* Urgent evaluation - As a result of aspiration of food into the airway, or malnutrition, urgent appointments can be arranged.
* Medical Reports - We provide comprehensive written reports incorporating both medical and speech pathologist findings and recommendations as a routine standard of care.
* Advice & Counselling - We provide advice and counselling on the optimal dietary modifications, swallowing and strengthening techniques, and other measures to ensure a safe and effective swallow.
* Referrals - We refer to and collaborate closely with numerous other specialists with expertise in swallowing disorders where necessary, including speech pathologists, dietitians, gastro-enterologists, neurologists, respiratory physicians and others.
* Specialised Investigation - We use advanced investigation techniques including: Functional Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), Video-fluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS), pH/Impedance studies for Reflux, Oral Salivary Pepsin Testing, Trans-nasal Oesophagoscopy (TNO), High Resolution Pharyngeal & Oesophageal Manometry.
* Specialised Treatments - We provide the full range of world's best practice, including office based procedures, endoscopic and open operating room procedures, botox injections, laser, and others.
* Biofeedback Swallowing Therapy - We can offer live visual biofeedback options via endoscopy and hi-resolution manometry.
