MEMA Architects (M. Economides + M. Akkelidou Architects LLC) is a professional partnership founded in1991. It is based in Nicosia, Cyprus. The directors of the firm and senior partners are Marios Economides AAdipl RIBAII and Maria Akkelidou Dipl-Ing. Architekt. Through a period of 34 years, our Studio has been involved in numerous projects, both in the private and public sector, acquiring a wide range of experience and knowledge in all facets of the architectural practice, specifically in designing buildings and in the supervision and contract administration of their construction. We strongly believe that the design and construction of a building is an integrated holistic process from inception to construction, involving many disciplines of specialized consultants and contractors. We design each project seeking a balance between functionality, topography, and the beauty of spaces. We keep a close dialogue with our clients through the design process, deeply understanding their needs and expectations, applying innovative and tailored solutions, paying special attention to detail. Our practice has strived successfully to excel in architectural designs, which address our clients’ specific briefs and needs through aesthetically elegant, technically informed and financially viable solutions. We have the skills and expertise required to develop a project from concept design to production of highly detailed construction drawings and technical specifications for the purpose of procurement and implementation. Since 1996 M. Economides and M. Akkelidou have received five 1st prize and three 2nd prize awards, including the 1st prizes for the Municipal Theatre of Pafos and for the Kavo Greco Visitor Centre, Cyprus. In 2016, M. Economides and M. Akkelidou have been awarded with the Republic of Cyprus State Award for Architecture for the Kavo Greco Visitor Centre.
