MannionDaniels supports the Menstrual Cup Coalition (MCC), a diverse women-led organisation, fighting for menstrual and climate justice. The MCC provides guidance and grants to grassroots organisations to deliver innovative menstrual health projects in socio-economically disadvantaged communities using menstrual cups.
Over 300 million women menstruate every day and the majority use rags or single-use disposable products to manage their periods. These are expensive, uncomfortable, limit freedom of movement, and add to social stigma because of leaks and smells. Single-use period products also have significant negative environmental impacts. They are the fifth most frequent source of plastic found on beaches in Europe, take over 500 years to decompose, block sewers, fill landfills, or create air pollution if burned. A single person uses up to 11,000 pads or tampons in a lifetime, which contain the equivalent of over 4,000 plastic bags. Or, they could use just four menstrual cups, as each lasts ten years.
The MCC supports local organisations to develop and run scalable menstrual cup distribution and health education projects which have measurable environmental, economic and equity outcomes. We source quality cups and train local organisations as trainers to distribute them in socio-economically deprived communities.
