Mental Health Communications was established to harness emerging technologies and the growing accessibility of mental health data to develop solutions that enhance the collective understanding and communication of mental wellbeing practices. Our vision is based on the idea that by integrating nuanced, evidence-based mental health strategies into everyday communication systems, at familial, communal, and societal levels; we position mental health awareness as the foundation of a comprehensive response that incorporates prevention and early intervention models, to ensure timely, high-quality care, support, and treatment. Our mission is especially relevant in an era where threats to mental wellbeing are increasingly shaped by powerful media influences. The idea that we can moderate and reverse the harmful impact of misinformation, negative propaganda and destructive rhetoric is hindered by expansionist business interests and political agendas. To counteract this, we must establish proactive safeguards, embedding care, connection, and community into daily communication systems to mitigate the negative effects of what we see, hear, and read. In this landscape, we believe our organization can make meaningful impact. We see promise in our subject matter knowledge and the tools at our disposal to create simple yet powerful innovation within mental, behavioural and psychosocial support systems.
