The Mermaid Fund will be a £25 million that will invest in environmental products and services that make sense for the planet – we call that Planet Sense. Specifically, the Fund will invest in the burgeoning seaweed and micro-algae industries.
The investment team at Equity Vision has identified companies at the heart of the seaweed revolution that address some of the current issues caused by global warming such as the proliferation of Sargassum seaweed on our beaches, as well as those that recognise the value of seaweed as a resource.
The principal aim of the Mermaid Fund investment strategy is to build an ecosystem of interdependent companies in the seaweed and micro-algae space to participate in a circular economy.
What this means is that the mermaid fund will target its investments at all those companies in the supply and distribution chain of seaweed and micro-algae based products, avoiding the throwaway culture of the linear economy.
The fund will be structured in such a way that every element of the circular economy is catered for, including beach clearance, harvesting, processing, design, manufacturing and recycling, resulting in a uniquely responsible fund for ethical investors.
