About Methom

Right now in Guadeloupe, methane is being produced in significant quantities (in the form of biogas: 3,000 tons per year of methane equivalent). This volume, used as NGV (Natural Gas for Vehicles), could power hundreds of heavy vehicles (~ 10% of the bus and truck fleet). The benefit would be twofold: - for producers, a better price for gas than for electricity (with the same visibility offered by long-term purchase contracts), - for users, a significant reduction of their greenhouse gas emissions (of the order of 80% compared to diesel, over the energy life cycle). If NGV is not developing in Guadeloupe, it's the fault of gas network. In mainland France, this infrastructure connects biogas production sites to NGV service-stations, allowing storage and transport of methane. In absence of gas network, the solution proposed by Methom is a local liquefied gas industry, from purification of biogas into methane to distribution of NGV in service-stations. There are many advantages: - concentrating transformation energy at the source (small-scale liquefaction of biogas), - taking advantage of liquid state to efficiently store and transport gas in tanks (technologies already proven around the world), - return this energy in the form of compressed gas at stations (CNG: Compressed Natural Gas). LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) thus becomes the vector for NGV development in French West Indies, with security of supply provided by the regional market. For transporters, CNG is competitive with diesel ; suitable vehicles are available and widely distributed. Methom's ambition is to support them in their energy transition, while promoting local economic activity and autonomy.
