The Metropolitan Tabernacle is a large independent Reformed Baptist church in the Elephant and Castle in London. It was founded in 1650, having among its history of pastors Dr John Gill (51 years), Dr John Rippon (63 years), and most notably Charles Haddon Spurgeon (38 years), during which time it was the largest nonconformist church in the world. Today it is a very large multi-ethnic congregation with Britain's biggest children's Sunday School (on four sites). Dr Peter Masters is the current pastor, having held the post since 1970; the assistant pastor is Ibrahim Ag Mohamed.
