METU Mountaineering and Winter Sports Club

METU DKSK is a student club where Turkey’s first and only mountaineering and ski lessons are given with a systematic and scientific approach. It established its leading position within other institutions regarding winter outdoor sports, including the Turkish Mountaineering Federation (TDF). A collection of theoretical and practical training is given to students willing to participate in our community each year. At the end of many years of mountaineering training, which began with hiking and camping in DKSK, a person can access a level of knowledge and experience that can reach the Himalayan peaks of 8000 meters if they want or climb the rock walls with a very advanced degree of difficulty found in Turkey. However, apart from these concrete theoretical and practical training and climbs, another dimension that is difficult to put on paper is the understanding and practice of mountaineering that took shape, especially in the 1970s at DKSK. Due to this, there is also an approach defined as a "DKSK school" in the field of mountaineering in Turkey, which differs from all other mountaineering practices.
