The Master of GeoInformatics academic program at Hunter College provides training for careers in many sectors of business, government, and academia. As technology more and more integrates into our lives, GeoInformatics focus on mapping the physical world will only increase in prominence, creating a timely and in-demand skillset and career. Prof. Sean Ahearn, the director of Geoinformatics program, initiated an internship project which is aiming for interconnecting formal MGeoI students and Carsi employees with professional organizations and potential employers to share opportunities and information. Hunter's MGeoI program is unique within the New York City Metropolitan area. This program is focusing on computational aspects of GIS includes modeling and programming, remote sensing, visualization, databases, spatial ontologies, spatial statistics, big data, complexity, as well as applied research topics such as human and animal mobility, transportation, crime and health, environmental modeling, urban environments, biogeography, disaster management, and community-based GIS.
