COVID-19 exposed a gap in the academic community's capacity to communicate how scientific work unfolds. Inspired by Hilary Putnam's "Division of Linguistic Labour", MIBI aimed to decentralize, aggregate and express expert opinions on the gut microbiome, a burgeoning and polarizing scientific field. Upon collecting expert opinions and communicating it with the public, MIBI would create a products that maintained broad scientific support - We called it a Decentralized Scientific Advisory Board (DSAB).
As a team of 4 Masters students graduating in the midst of a lockdown in the UK, we were successful in defining our niche, ideating, testing market segments, creating an in depth researchers survey, running several ad-campaigns, pitching to investors, designing product mock ups, prototyping, interviewing and surveying experts in the field.
