The Migration Initiative (MI) is a student group based at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland. We were founded in February 2016 by a group of students concerned about migration issues in the modern world. Every year, we organize activities and events that aim to catalyze student and community engagement with migrants in Geneva and across the world.
The Migration Initiative aims to promote engagement with, and raise awareness of, the dilemmas and issues faced by individuals and non-state actors in the face of the contemporary migration crisis. The Initiative places itself firmly in the humanist tradition without discarding broader dialogues on policy and economic impact. To this end, we aim to facilitate volunteering, fundraising, experience-sharing, and collaboration for the maintenance and promotion of the fundamental human rights of migrants, with emphasis on refugee and asylum seeker populations.
