About Samuel Mikoviny Fund
The project's goal is the restoration and accessibility of Mikovíni’s House, a significant monument situated within the Banská Štiavnica Monument Reserve (listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for 30 years). The present form of this townhouse is the result of over 700 years of development. In the mid-18th century, it was owned by Samuel Mikovíni (1700–1750), a polymath whose innovative nature and versatile skills represented the most progressive intellectual, creative, and scientific cur-rents of his time in Hungary. Mikovíni excelled as a geodesist, cartographer, mathematician, engrav-er, graphic artist, designer, builder, and mechanical engineer. As the first professor of the newly founded Banská Akadémia, he lectured in this building, which is now named Mikovíni’s House. The academy was the world's first higher education institution with a technical focus.
