The Mind-Eye Institute is recognized worldwide for its work in neuro-optometric rehabilitation, including assessment of “retinal processing.” Intact retinal processing enables people to understand and interact appropriately with the world around them. It also allows their brain to determine whether surroundings are safe, and it links light input with circadian sleep rhythms and neurotransmitter levels. If brain circuitry is out of sync, however, because it has been disrupted by injury or disease or is simply under-developed, people can become confused about their surrounding environment and exhibit inappropriate reactions and responses. Neuro-optometric rehabilitation uses mind-eye testing – versus conventional eye health and eyesight testing – to prescribe therapeutic eyeglasses and other optometric interventions on an individualized basis. Those interventions are designed to balance sensory systems. The balanced systems calm the nervous system, allowing the person to interact with their environment and think more clearly.
