The objective of the project is to develop a versatile process for management and valorisation of CO2 and nitrogen with efficient renewable resource deployment. With renewable biomass as feedstock, pyrolysis followed by combustion under Moderate or Intense Low-oxygen Dilution (MILD) conditions enables CO2 management via dry reforming and syngas generation. Biomass char from the pyrolysis can be activated and utilized for adsorption of nitrogen from additional biomass feedstock, and used for soil nitrification. The concept thus adopts a circular approach as it employs biomass residues as raw material and combines the generation of heat and syngas with that of porous biochar materials for several possible applications.
