Miranda - Mobile Learning

Whether it's climate change, economic crisis, or inflation, a good understanding of mathematics is essential to navigate an increasingly complex world and make informed decisions. Unfortunately, mathematics is often a subject that causes anxiety for students. This is also shown by the enormous demand for tutoring. More than 60% of all after-school tutoring lessons in Austria are dedicated to a single subject, namely mathematics. This amounts to over 2 million tutoring hours per year. However, tutoring is expensive and not affordable for everyone. Especially children from low-income families are left behind. That's why we, the two physicists Markus Müllner and Michael Niedermayr, teamed up 3 years ago to develop the math learning app Miranda. Our goal was to digitally recreate the benefits of personal math tutoring and make it accessible to everyone in the form of a free and ad-free app. The Miranda app combines personalized, entertaining learning videos, interactive exercises, and an integrated ChatGPT feature. The app adapts to individual learning progress and provides students with direct feedback as well as explanations tailored to their needs.
