Mise en Scène was founded by Amy Kertzer, driven by her passion for cinema. The company's mission is two-fold: 1) make learning about the best movies from around the world fun, easy, and accessible and 2) share the beauty of cinema through a unique offering of home and lifestyle products.
The company was founded in the autumn of 2018, in the heart of Silicon Valley, and the doors to the online shop opened in February 2019. We launched our first collection of movie candles for Women's History Month, and we develop new products every season for an ever-expanding selection of unique products.
Our customer is someone who loves movies, fashion, music, and art. You watch all sorts of movies, but would love to learn more about films and directors you've heard about, but might not know where to start your learning journey. You’re known among your friends for having discerning taste, enjoying art and culture, shopping online, chilling at home solo, and going out for brunch. To you, Mise en Scène is a curated world of film and an appreciation of nuance and subtlety. It’s a place for you to discover the magic of cinema.
We believe anyone can learn about film, and we created this company to make access to learning about the film canon something you can do anywhere, anytime. We create streamlined learning modules so you go as in depth into film as you'd like to.
We believe the beauty of cinema can be seen and enjoyed in the everyday. Each item in the shop has been especially created or selected for its eye catching design, bold graphic, and use of color. The signature product is a movie candle, the CineCandle, which takes the concept of mise en scène one step further by evoking time, place, and mood through scent. We also offer apparel, totes, home goods, and vintage movie posters and books.
