Mission Walk is an endeavour to provide medical treatment (primarily corrective surgeries and prosthetic limbs) to underprivileged mentally handicapped children. The project has three elements: arranging the medical treatment, securing funding for the treatment, and psychosocially rehabilitating the children being treated through teaching music.
Key achievements:
- Arranged 13 corrective surgeries and 2 prosthetic limbs
- Established a Paediatric Orthopaedics Centre at the leading Indian hospital Deenanath Mangeshkar, securing a CSR grant from Volkswagen India as funding; till date 50,000+ people have been diagnosed/treated, those below the poverty line for free
- Raised over INR 19,000,000 (GBP 210,000) for treatments through fundraisers, events, social media & donations
- Created a music band (Saksham – Hindi for “Capable”) with 11 children and performed the Indian National Anthem as the opener of five disability awareness events in Maharashtra
- Designed and conducted weekly lessons to train 20 mentally handicapped children in piano, drums, vocals & music theory, resulting in boosted happiness, confidence, and physical mobility
