Miss Limitless is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization founded the mission to close the gender gap in U.S. politics by empowering the next generation of female leaders.
We know that when girls run for student government, or seek leadership positions in school, their propensity to run for office later in life increases immensely -- by seven times to be exact. We aim to unlock each girl’s political ambition and potential early on, so she can find her voice—and use it to change the world.
We officially launched in January of 2019. Since then we have conducted a national research study and have used the findings as the foundation to build our digital content, curriculum, and a community that will teach young women why and how to run for student government. We want to inspire and prepare the leaders of the future, because research has shown that sometimes girls need an extra nudge. Learn more about our approach.
Ultimately, our goal is to drastically increase the number of young women who see themselves as future politicians. We believe this to be a necessary part of the solution to reach gender parity in elected positions across the United States. At the local, state, and federal levels, female representation averages below 25%, while women make up approximately 52% of the population. What’s more, when you take into account representation of women of color, these numbers drop even lower: 8.8% of the House of Representatives, 4% of the Senate, and 6.2% of state legislatures.
