Mistra EviEM

The financially and politically independent initiative EviEM was established in January 2012 and is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research (Mistra) from 2012 – 2017. The Secretariat is located at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden. EviEM aims to improve the basis for decisions in Swedish environmental policy by • reviewing the underlying science of various important environmental issues through systematic reviews • working together with international scientists • meeting and discussing with environmental authorities and other stakeholders on a regular basis • providing evidence-based results that public agencies and other decision-makers in Sweden can use as a scientific basis when developing advice and guidelines for practical environmental work • encouraging and supporting scientists to engage in conducting environmental systematic reviews EviEM’s systematic reviews Systematic reviews are literature reviews that aim to identify, compile and analyse all available high quality research evidence relevant to a specific, well-defined question. EviEM's systematic reviews follow the guidelines set up by the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence (CEE), and aim to provide reliable answers to environmental questions and evidence needs through: • Transparency, which includes detailed documentation of all assessments and regular exchange with stakeholders. • Objectivity, which is promoted by various tools used to minimize the risk of bias. • Repeatability, which means that the results should be independent of the people undertaking the review. It also means that the review should be easy to up-date as more data becomes available. Upon completion of each project, EviEM publishes a report, scientific summary and other products related to the respective project.
