Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology

Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT), Muzaffarpur, is a premier academic institution of eastern India in the field of engineering and pharmacy. It is under the administrative control of the Department of Science and Technology and wholly funded by the Govt. of Bihar. Established in 1954, MIT is one of India's oldest professional education institutes, working with the motto "Work is above everything else". The foundation stone was laid by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. MIT came into existence on 25th Sep 1954, just seven years after India's independence from external power. It was inaugurated by Sri C.P.N. Sinha, then governor of East Punjab. Initially, it started with Civil Engineering discipline having a batch of 45 students as 1954-55 batch with the name 'College of Civil Engineering, Muzaffarpur'. MIT is affiliated with Bihar Engineering University (BEU) & Aryabhatta Knowlege University, Patna and offers Bachelor's Degree programs in Engineering and Pharmacy, with Master's Degree specialization in Machine Design, Thermal Engineering & Transportation Engineering. The institute also caters to the research and development activities of the state of Bihar, India. MIT Muzaffarpur has produced professionals in engineering and pharmacy that have contributed significantly by serving in key roles in government and large private sectors, including multinational corporations in India and overseas. With their knowledge and hard work, some have gone as high as Chairman and Managing Director positions. The sectors in which MIT professionals have held important roles include Energy & Power generation, Railways, Mining and Steel, Information Technology, Defense including Research and Development, Public Infrastructure such as Bridges, Highways, Tunnels, Dams, Academics in various Universities, Renewables, and Administrative Services etc. Currently, MIT Muzaffarpur professionals are making great positive contributions in all major sectors and across all continents, earning great reputations for their alma mater and the nation.
