The Mitochondrial Innovation Initiative (MITO2i) was established as an Institutional Strategic Initiative (ISI) at the University of Toronto in March 2020. The creation of MITO2i was based on the fundamental problem that the role of mitochondria in health and disease is poorly understood, and the lack of biomarkers and treatments for mitochondria disease and diseases with underlying mitochondrial dysfunction.
MITO2i delivers a collaborative hub that engages all stakeholders in advancing science in the field of mitochondrial medicine & research. Our goal is to transform the understanding of mitochondrial health and disease, leading to better diagnoses and treatments that enhance the quality of human life; ultimately transforming healthcare by integrating mitochondrial health into routine care.
