Our vision: To do ourselves out of a job in Nepal by creating a network of inspired people, who are trained and engaged to continue with the sustainable projects we create.
The world’s education system no longer meets the needs of the modern world. This is even more true for developing countries like Nepal. Schools here follow a very traditional rote learning model – memorising chunks of text from a textbook. Many children finish school being able to memorise a paragraph of information and copy it into an exam question without understanding what any of it means.
Education needs to address more current issues – functional literacy, practical life skills such as confidence, team work, information and time management.
In addition, many more children are completing school in Nepal now but without any career counseling and planning and with a slow economy, many are falling straight into unemployment. More support on options and career development as well as work experience programs is critical to ensure this generation does not lose hope and become a generation of unemployed, semi-literate, frustrated youth.
