Ensign Pensions started life as Merchant Navy Pensions Administration providing administration to industrywide maritime pension schemes and grew into an administrator looking after several third-party pension schemes.
The business was rebranded to become Ensign Pensions and shortly thereafter, the administration side of the business was acquired by JLT leaving a small company providing executive services to the trustee boards of maritime schemes which were also eventually moved elsewhere along with the remaining employees.
The Ensign Retirement Plan was established to provide money purchase benefits to the maritime industry, but after several years of operation, a decision was taken to merge the scheme into a larger master trust.
The company currently operates to centrally manage services used by a small number of client schemes.
