About Mobile Robotics Lab

The Mobile Robotics Lab at ETH Zürich works towards the next generation of mobile robots to support us in our everyday lives. Our research includes aerial robots (drones) for inspecting and monitoring hazardous or remote sites, as well as humanoid and other ground-based robots designed to perform repetitive, strenuous, or dangerous tasks on construction sites and in domestic environments. A core focus of our work is the development of Spatial AI capabilities, enabling robots to build a deep understanding of their surroundings. This is essential for robust navigation and exploration in cluttered, dynamic, and unknown environments. Beyond perception, we aim for our robots to master mobile manipulation—the ability to carry out complex tasks involving physical interaction with their environment. To achieve these capabilities, we leverage a range of robot learning techniques, including learning from demonstration and self-learning. Additionally, we are exploring novel robot concepts, with a particular emphasis on innovative drone designs.
