What is the mission of Mobilidata? Flanders, a densely populated region in Belgium with roughly 6.5 inhabitants, is determined in its choice for C-ITS technology to create safer, smoother and more sustainable mobility. The northern region of Belgium has established the Mobilidata program to work towards these objectives. Between March ’23 and June '25, Mobilidata focuses on the roll-out of connected mobility (C-ITS) services for car and truck drivers, cyclists, emergency services and public transport in Flanders. Who is Mobilidata? Mobilidata is a public-private collaboration of the Flanders’ government, strategic research center imec, and private companies with expertise in traffic technology, navigation management, intelligent traffic lights, mobility applications, ... Mobilidata is funded by VLAIO and co-funded by the EU. The program started in '19 and ends in June '25. How does C-ITS work in Flanders? First up is the deployment of personalized traffic warnings. Next, the connection with dynamic traffic light installations (iTLC) will go live. iTLC’s send and receive realtime information to and from connected road users in their vicinity. They optimize traffic flows and can give priority to specific road users, like emergency services. Connected mobility makes traffic 'talk'. The two-way communication of road infrastructure and road users, creates many opportunities for road users as well as road authorities. Deployment and opportunities: 31 mobility C-ITS solutions will be deployed from now on. Road users in Flanders can receive personalized traffic warnings and connect to intelligent traffic lights by using a connected end-user application. The first apps to offer the Mobilidata service are Flitsmeister and NDrive KartaGPS. Extra partners are welcome to provide mobility data or integrate Mobilidata use cases in their product or service.
