About Musée des ondes Emile Berliner | MOEB
In operation since 1992, MOEB opened its current exhibition space in 1996 to present its collection to the public. Located near the entrance of the RCA Building in Saint-Henri, the Museum occupies room A-108 and uses the building common space to display an exhibit case. It is located on the original site of the Berliner Gram-o-Phone factory (1908-1924), which became the Victor Talking Machine of Canada (1924-1929), RCA Victor Canada Limited (1929-1970) and RCA (1970-1978), following its move to Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. Its mission is to make known the history of the capture, reproduction and diffusion of sound and electromagnetic waves. It highlights the role of inventor Emile Berliner and his descendants, as well as that of Montreal companies associated with the technological and cultural revolution of the 20th century. MOEB performs all the functions of a museum: conservation, acquisition, education, research, cultural action, dissemination and documentation. It is recognized worldwide as the focal point for information on the history of sound reproduction. It acquires and exhibits for study, education and enjoyment. The Museum is committed to best practices in the conservation of sound reproduction heritage related to sound reproduction and related technologies. It adheres to the collection management standards of the Société des musées du Québec as well as the standards of Library and Archives Canada. MOEB is committed to applying scientific rigor to the interpretation of the history of sound reproduction technology and its derivative activities, and to using the best practices in history education. The Museum is respectful of its staff/volunteers, its public and its partners. It is open to diverse cultural clientele and values human contact and service to the community, and open and accessible as a place of remembrance for the artisans of the sound recording industry and industrial production (gramophones, radios, televisions, satellites).
