Moldmap is a groundbreaking new platform designed to provide critical information on indoor air quality through crowdsourced reviews and business verification. Our mission is to empower people to make informed decisions about the air they breathe, ensuring healthier living environments. The average American spends over 90% of their time indoors, often breathing air that can be harmful to their health. Poor indoor air quality from mold, bacteria, VOCs, chemical fragrances and other pollutants can cause various health issues beyond just allergies, such as respiratory problems, weakened immune systems, increased infection risk, cancers, neurological issues, and developmental disorders. Sometimes the effects are immediate, and other times it takes years to connect health problems to indoor air quality, leading to prolonged suffering, misdiagnoses, lost opportunities, and significant emotional and financial stress. People with complex chronic illness such as Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) are especially vulnerable to unhealthy indoor air quality, and often need to first address their indoor environment first in order to heal. A U.S. Environmental Protection Agency survey found that nearly 50% of buildings were experiencing ongoing problems with leaks causing water damage–the main precursor to mold growth. Pair this with the fact that most modern buildings are much more airtight than they used to be and often don’t allow fresh air in, and you can see that the conditions are ideal for major indoor air quality problems. Moldmap was born out of the idea that everyone deserves access to clean, healthy air free of toxins and overpowering fragrances. As our environmental toxin load continues to increase, it’s now more important than ever for every person–whether perfectly healthy or dealing with a health condition–to be aware of the air going into their lungs each and every day.
