What is Mollesnejta? Our mission is to showcase that agricultural food production can be sustainably successful through the methods of agroforestry and contributes to fight the endangerment of our forests, soils and climate. This is because agroforestry doesn’t rely on practices like slash and burn, monocultures and use of chemical fertilizer. The scientific institute for agroforestry MOLLESNEJTA in the heart of Bolivia was founded by Dr. Noemi Stadler Kaulich and is a globally leading lighthouse project for sustainability. A portfolio of sustainable practices is aimed to inspire and enable farmers to run a sustainably successful agriculture business under even the most difficult conditions (dry and eroded soil). Instead of following practices like slash and burn, monocultures and use of chemical fertilizer, trees contribute to fertile soils and provide biomass for Terra Preta. Additionally, polycultures ensure the natural balance between pesticidal and beneficial insects and the entire structure serves as an exemple for circular economy. Following these principles an Andean dry land that was once desert-like was successfully transformed into a flourishing ecosystem. Mollesnejta is now home to various trees and crops which grow in fertile soil and is a habitat for endangered species. It is recognized by TreeDivNet as the first research project worldwide that explores the factors of biodiversity in agroforest systems based on BEF principles and is an official partner of United Nations for the sustainable development goals 2, 8, 12, 13 and 15.
