Moon and Mars Industries

Moon and Mars Industries is creating manufacturing capabilities in Earth orbit and beyond. In-space manufacturing requires automated systems, without astronauts, without the possibility of hands-on. Redundant system design and fault-tolerant software ensure 100% uptime. Zero-G conditions allow materials and processes with unique properties, impossible on Earth: fibre optic, cell cultures, alloys. These applications will benefit all of us when we make space manufacturing a reality. To test in-space manufacturing systems before using them in expensive orbital spaceflight missions, we are building a suborbital launch vehicle. This approach facilitates frequent testing in zero-G at the top of the suborbital parabolic flight and lowers risks. The launch vehicle is powered by an engine running on kerosene and liquid oxygen. The components are all designed, manufactured, and tested in-house: engine, structure, flight computer, and software. Canadian aerospace engineers who have built launch vehicle are rare. Most of our employees are recruited directly from rocket design teams at UBC, SFU and UVic, bringing years of relevant experience to the team. These future Canadian engineers will design new rockets, creating innovations and opportunities for all. Through our work, Moon and Mars Industries is increasing the depth and breadth of the Canadian space industry.
