We are a high-grade African gold producer with three mines in Kenya and Zimbabwe.
Karebe, in Western Kenya, was our first acquisition and is one of the world’s highest-grade gold mines. Gold was first discovered in the region in the 1940’s, during which time a number of small scale mines were developed in the area. In the 1960s mining activity came to a halt and there was no mining in the region until KGML commenced operations in 2009.
In 2015 we re-opened Venice and Commoner mines, in the Midlands Archean age greenstone belt in Zimbabwe. In the 1980s Venice was one of the biggest gold mines in Zimbabwe, while Commoner had produced more than 4 tonnes of gold, at an average grade of 8 grams per tonne. We are rehabilitating and modernising both sites.
