Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) will repurpose the depleting North and South Morecambe gas fields into a world-leading carbon storage facility, capable of storing one gigaton of emissions to provide a long-term decarbonisation solution for the UK’s carbon-intensive industries.
The MNZ Cluster could store up to three years’ worth of UK carbon emissions, or eight years’ worth of emissions from the manufacturing industry in its lifetime. Its storage capacity is well in line with the Government’s ambition to accept 5 million tonnes of CO2 per annum, and could scale to ultimately accept five times this amount each year.
