Mousehall Distillery & Winery

Mousehall Country Estate lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in a secluded valley on the northern edge of the parish of Mayfield in East Sussex. Mousehall was first recorded in the Doomsday book in 1086 and since then has been a working farm with a prosperous history. Mousehall received its unusual name after the first traceable owner James De Moushall "James of Mousehall" during the 11th century Norman Conquest. It is not certain if Mousehall was formed from mispronunciation or misspelling of Moushall surname as the archives note Monsehall, Monse, Mouleshale, Moushall, Mousehale were all names given to Mousehall. In September 2017, Gary and Kathy Jordan owners of Jordan Wine Estate in South Africa discovered the neglected and over-grown property. With a background in Viticulture and the love of a challenge, Mousehall Country Estate was brought back to life. Gary, Kathy and Christy Jordan have been cultivating the land, planting and sourcing botanicals, and carefully planning the opening of their Distillery and Winery and the launch of their first product Mousehall Sussex Dry Gin. Mousehall is not only home to our Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier vineyard, and various gin botanicals, but to our 23 Dorper sheep, 8 beehives, and Lily, Cody and McLeod our Mousehall pets.
