We are a Bristol based nonprofit which partners with local organisations to provide free and accessible capoeira classes to marginalised groups. Our aim is to open up the vibrant community of capoeira and to share with all its associated benefits to physical and mental health.
Capoeira is an afro-brazilian artform with a powerful history. From its origins in slavery, to its elevation as part of Brazil's intangible cultural heritage, capoeira has been on a journey from oppression to social celebration. It is a game between two people who play together to create a unique dialogue of kicks, escapes and acrobatics. The pair are encircled by their fellow capoeiristas who sing, clap and play instruments to offer energy to the game.
Practising capoeira means being welcomed into this rich community, forging powerful friendships, challenging yourself, exploring your creativity and building confidence in your self-expression. The benefits of capoeira are immense and we strive to unlock these benefits for everyone.
To support our free classes, Move Free CIC also offers bespoke team-building workshops for businesses and other organisations. Our capoeira inspired workshops provide unique creative challenges that help bring out the various strengths and capacities within your team. They help promote trust, cooperation, peer learning, confidence, stress relief and creativity.
