Mozgrain

Mozgrain is the Meridian commodity trading arm in Mozambique. We originate, process, and trade a range of commodities domestically, as well as for export. Our core focus is on maize, pulses such as pigeon peas, green mung beans, oilseeds such as soya, sesame seeds, ground nuts, and beans such as kidney beans, soya beans, and cow peas. In 2021 we have launched Maize Flour under our “TA NICE” brand. The Mozgrain model provides last mile connectivity for farmers and their produce. We originate commodities through a range of small-scale farmers, commercial farms, commodities dealers, and agricultural collectives. We then go on to process the produce according to the buyers’ requirements, and from here we handle the transport to the end buyers via road or deep sea. We operate in different locations of central (Sofala, Manica, Zambézia and Tete) and northern (Nampula and Cabo Delgado) Mozambique. With various grass-root level initiatives, we continue our efforts to help farmers achieve higher productivity and work on increasing up take of crop protection chemicals and improved seeds. Our management team has a combined experience of the commodities industry spanning several decades, allowing us to be fast, flexible, and extremely pragmatic in finding solutions to supplier requirements and buyer needs. Key Projects and Achievements To meet constant foreign exchange challenges for imported fertilizer inputs, Meridian Group pooled its expertise to extend its grain and pulses trading to Mozambique. In 2021 our traded volumes exceeded 60k+ tons. We manage 7 Silos Complex under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of Mozambique. This has further improved our storage capacity. Our factory in Nhamatanda has fully functional mechanized capacity of cleaning and processing to handle Maize and to hull Sesame Seeds.
