Moose River Heritage and Hospitality Association

The Moose River Heritage and Hospitality Association unites its co-founding jurisdictional members (Moose Cree First Nation, MoCreebec Eyoud Council, and the Town of Moosonee) and individual members around the mission: To preserve, document, promote and perpetuate our historical and cultural heritage and our tradition of hospitality and to build a future with our shared past. We share an interest in the rich historical and cultural heritage of Moose Factory, Moosonee and the Moose River region. That historical and cultural heritage is primarily Omushkego, but includes major contributions from other peoples, contributions that have become part of the present‐day community’s political, social, religious, economic and cultural fabric, in the course of its long evolution that predates Moose Factory’s establishment as a fur‐trade post in 1673. As demonstrated by our communities’ additional Eeyou, Orcadian, Scottish, English, Norwegian and French heritage, hospitality has long been one of the most important aspects of Moose Cree and Omushkego culture. Our current major undertaking is a multi-pronged celebration and commemoration initiative: "More than 350 in 2023: Moose Factory in Omushkego Aski, from Time Immemorial to 1673 to 2023."
