The Department of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was established in 1995. It offers a range of programs including a B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing (MnC), an M.Sc in Mathematics and Computing (MnC), an M.Sc in Mathematics, and various Ph.D. programs. Our goal is to provide top-tier education and foster innovation in mathematical sciences.
M.Sc. Programs Overview
Initially launched in 2000, the M.Sc. Mathematics and Computing program was split into two courses in 2023: M.Sc. (MnC) and M.Sc. (Maths). Both programs share a robust curriculum with some key differences:
First Semester: Both programs share foundational courses such as C Programming, Linear Algebra, Modern Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and Real Analysis.
Second Semester Onward: The programs diverge slightly:
M.Sc. (MnC) students focus on Differential Equations and Data Structures & Algorithms.
M.Sc. (Maths) students study Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) and Topology.
Common courses include Probability,Optimization Techniques, Numerical Analysis, Advance Statistics, DBMS etc
Final Year: Both programs include a seminar course and a final semester project, providing practical research experience.
