M.Sc. Mathematics Community - IITG

The Department of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was established in 1995. It offers a range of programs including a B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing (MnC), an M.Sc in Mathematics and Computing (MnC), an M.Sc in Mathematics, and various Ph.D. programs. Our goal is to provide top-tier education and foster innovation in mathematical sciences. M.Sc. Programs Overview Initially launched in 2000, the M.Sc. Mathematics and Computing program was split into two courses in 2023: M.Sc. (MnC) and M.Sc. (Maths). Both programs share a robust curriculum with some key differences: First Semester: Both programs share foundational courses such as C Programming, Linear Algebra, Modern Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and Real Analysis. Second Semester Onward: The programs diverge slightly: M.Sc. (MnC) students focus on Differential Equations and Data Structures & Algorithms. M.Sc. (Maths) students study Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) and Topology. Common courses include Probability,Optimization Techniques, Numerical Analysis, Advance Statistics, DBMS etc Final Year: Both programs include a seminar course and a final semester project, providing practical research experience. The Centre for Career Development (CCD) at IIT Guwahati facilitates campus placements, with our graduates securing positions at top tech companies such as Google, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, TCS, and BlackRock, as well as ed-tech firms like Allen, Physics Wallah (PW), FIITJEE, Vedantu, and Narayana. The department is heavily invested in research, spanning various areas such as pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and interdisciplinary fields. Our programs are designed to equip students with the skills necessary to tackle complex problems and contribute to various fields.
