Monlam Tibetan IT Research Center

Monlam Tibetan IT Research Center is a pioneering technology and research organisation dedicated to preserving and advancing the Tibetan language and cultural heritage through innovative digital solutions and artificial intelligence. Founded in 2012 under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the center specialises in developing cutting-edge AI-powered tools, including machine translation, OCR, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech models under the Monlam AI project. With over 150 employees, the centre has achieved significant milestones, including developing the Monlam Grand Tibetan Dictionary, creating essential Tibetan fonts, and launching 37 software applications across multiple platforms. Based in Dharamshala, India, the center focuses on research and development in natural language processing, digital preservation of ancient texts, educational initiatives, and technological solutions for the Tibetan language community. Through partnerships with universities, Buddhist institutions, and tech companies worldwide, Monlam Tibetan IT Research Center continues to lead innovative approaches to cultural preservation while making Buddhist knowledge accessible to the global community.
