Mudun

Mudun مدن Mudun is an initiative that advocates for better urban planning in Amman. We share visual, real-life examples of problem sites in the city. This includes narrow, poorly paved sidewalks with misplaced elements like poles, trees, and often cars that make it difficult to walk. We also share visual examples of ways to benefit from underused space, like planting trees, as well as visual representations of how a given street would be if there were bicycle lanes. We will also exhibit how narrowing streets could ensure smoother, safer traffic flow. Additionally, Mudun conducts population surveys to collect data regarding residents’ opinions on the current state of Amman’s urban design. By raising awareness, we hope to generate citizen interest and gain support from individuals in positions of power—eventually making a tangible change in the current state of Amman’s urban design.
