About Multicultural Aged Care
Multicultural Aged Care (MAC) is a peak body for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) ageing, aged, and community care in Australia. We ensure the needs of CALD older people remain on the national agenda. MAC receives funding from the Australian Government for programs like Partners in Culturally Appropriate Care (PICAC), Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), and the Care Finder Program. Sector Support (CHSP SSD) MAC supports CALD service providers by facilitating information sharing, training, and sector development. We collaborate with key stakeholders such as the Department of Health and Aged Care, Aged and Community Care Providers Association Ltd (ACCPA), and the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission to improve culturally appropriate care. Social Support - Café 94 (CHSP SSG) Café 94 provides culturally appropriate social support to CALD individuals aged 65 and over. Activities include bus trips, music, arts, craft, and wellness programs, fostering social inclusion for older adults. Resource Development (CHSP & PICAC) MAC develops resources tailored to the needs of CALD older people. We contribute to national working groups and provide digital and online resources for service providers, offering expert cultural knowledge to support CALD populations. Information, Education, and Training (PICAC) MAC delivers culturally informed training to the aged care workforce in residential and community care settings. Our training covers Cultural Awareness, Competency, and Safety and includes topics like dementia, palliative care, and Advanced Care Directives. Sessions are available in English and LOTE. Aged Care Service Finders Our Care Finder program (in consortium with Catalyst Foundation) helps vulnerable older people access aged care services. It provides intensive support for those needing extra assistance to navigate the aged care system and connect with essential services.
