About KTH Marcus Wallenberg Laboratory for Sound and Vibration Research

MWL is part of the Department of Engineering Mechanics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and has grown to become the largest university centre for sound and vibration research in Scandinavia, with four full time professors and a total staff at around 35. Research activities at MWL are carried out within three main fields: vibro-acoustics (structure-borne sound), flow acoustics, and numerical acoustics. Most of the research financing comes from European projects and Swedish funding agencies. MWL also cooperates extensively with industries such as Scania, Volvo, ABB, among others. MWL facilities are suited to perform measurements ranging from standard sound power and sound absorption measurements, to modal analysis and characterization of mufflers, vibration mounts and materials. MWL also has an aero-acoustic test rig and a large experience in investigations concerning fluid machinery noise, e.g., from fans. The laboratory is mainly used for research and teaching but can also be hired by external users. For such users we can offer measurement support and perform investigations concerning low noise designs.
