MyFarm is a social business that by using a unique online platform, connects consumers to smallholder farmers.
MyFarm’s goal is to eliminate the rural depopulation which creates serious social, economic and environmental problems. One cause for this human desertification is related to the abandonment of agriculture by smallholder farmers.
We want to put vegetable gardens, agriculture’s products and the landscape of the smallholder farmers a click away from the consumers. Dignifying the farmer's activity and bring back life to the rural space.
MyFarm started as an entrepreneur project at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja. The original idea was to make a real Farmville (Facebook game) where consumers could manage, visit their real vegetable garden and see them through a WEB camera. We now offer more than that:
The consumers can manage their virtual vegetable gardens, and their choices are replicated or not, on a real vegetable garden at one or more farmer's land. They can choose the management degree, and if they want, help on the field. They can also buy agricultural products directly from the farmer(s), knowing all the processes of these products and rate the farmers.
To the farmers our application allows them to make available the vegetables of the season, which the consumer can plant on his virtual garden; tell the consumer the production mode, the quantities/production he can expect from those vegetables; and much more. He can also use our application to sell other products directly from the farm (eggs, fruits, olive oil, honey, wine, etc...). The farmer can also choose to be in MyFarm, independently or as part of a group of farmers.
