MyWater is a specialist water meter manufacturer based in South Africa. The Water Wireless meter was designed to keep track of exactly what your monthly water costs are while also encouraging good water use habits.
The principle behind the solution is that it allows consumers to obtain an update of the water they have used instantly on their mobile device. This is because a real-time water meter reading is relayed directly from a monitor in the home to the user’s cell phone.
MyWater does more than give updates on your latest water costs. It also provides an ‘Early Warning’ option that uses SMS to send a message direct to the phone in the event of a meter overrun. This could be caused by an undetected leak, burst pipe or geyser, or even just the over watering of the garden.
A solar powered version of the meter was launched in September 2014, as this has proven to be far more effective than the initial battery-operated models. The meter is, in effect, a solar powered GSM communications system and requires very little light to remain charged – usually a fluorescent kitchen light in a kitchen is strong enough to keep it powered.
