NextGen Clinical Nurse Specialists

The Next Gen Committee is a collection of Clinical Nurse Specialists from across the country who came together to highlight the presence and emphasize the role of CNSs as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses . The members of the committee have a variety of backgrounds, including outpatient diabetes, cardiac care, trauma, critical care, genetic therapy, hematology, oncology, med-surg, and orthopedics to name a few. Additionally, several members are involved in leading the next generation of nurses and clinical nurse specialists in faculty positions. The new committee was formed in June of 2023: Magdalena Stewart, Chair Chris Kolokythas, Co-Chair Kate Heacock, Co-Chair Crystalyn Acosta Kacy Aderhold Christine Brown Rachael Jividen Kat Molitor Elizabeth Mounir Allison Plata Traci Smith Christine Tran Heather Tripp Jackeline Iseler The Next Gen Committee was proactively developed to increase CNS practice resources, provide support in developing local CNS practice, and increase CNS student enrollment. The CNS requires support to deliver clinical expertise in the dynamic and complex healthcare systems. NACNS and the Next Gen Committee collaborate with various healthcare organizations nationwide to help nurses advance their careers, develop a CNS practice, and inspire the next generation of clinical nurse specialists. We aim to educate how CNSs can advance evidence-based care, improve clinical education and research, provide expert consultation, and empower nurses to become healthcare leaders. Our goals include increasing public awareness of CNS roles, streamlining access to CNS clinical information and career development, and providing practice tips across various social media platforms. We want to create a fresh and fun way to connect to all our NACNS members and are still recruiting CNSs and students.
