About NACOFA

The National Alliance of Community Forest Associations (NACOFA) is a community network that advocates for and supports the rights of communities to take centre stage in forest and general environment management in Kenya. NACOFA was formed in 2002 and finally registered in 2005 for the purposes of creating a community driven focal point (federation) through which communities and relevant stake holders in the NRM sector can channel their ideas and decisions that can influence policy makers and implementing agencies in the sector. The main target of (NACOFA) was and has been to reach out to forest adjacent communities to form Community Forest (CFAs) around the country, to have a strong voice and be recognition as primary stake holders in the forest sector. Have focused community empowerment programs and advocacy for better policies that ensure sustainable management of natural resources in Kenya.
