About NanoTubeTEC
The startup NanoTubeTEC from Leibniz Institute of Surface Engineering and University of Leipzig aims to establish titania nanotube scaffolds as a novel tissue culture platform. The scaffolds allow long-term cultures of a variety of sensitive adult tissues. In this way, personalized medicine can be realized: long-term culture of tissues from individual patients provides the basis for a personalized evaluation of various therapy options. Thereby, an organotypic preservation of tissues in vitro is the key point. It prolongs survival times of cultured tissues significantly and enhances the culture quality markedly. This benefits not only patients, but also researchers, physicians and health insurers. Long-term tissue culture promotes new findings in basic research, accelerates development pipelines in biomedicine and pharma, and facilitates the evolution of personalized medicine. Currently, the team focuses on the cultivation of breast cancer tissue in order to find the most effective therapeutics in the lab – before the treatment and with the aim to reduce the risk of recurrence. NanoTubeTEC is collaborating closely with physicians, anatomists and biologists, e.g. from the Medical Center, University of Leipzig (Department of Anatomy and Department of Gynaecology), HMU Health and Medical University Potsdam and OncoRay Dresden.
