Since its launch in 2020, NASA Space Apps Colombo has become a dynamic platform for innovation, connecting Sri Lanka to the global space community. As the local edition of the NASA Space Apps Challenge, this event has brought together coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, and technologists to solve some of the most pressing challenges in the space industry. Organized under the guidance of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space - Sri Lanka (SEDS Sri Lanka), the event was brought to life through the efforts of Thilan Thanthirinalage, the founder and first Local Lead of NASA Space Apps Colombo. Thilan, who also co-founded SEDS Sri Lanka, played a key role in establishing this platform to empower Sri Lankan innovators. NASA Space Apps Colombo provides opportunities for participants to collaborate on innovative solutions to challenges posed by NASA and other space agencies. The event goes beyond app development, engaging fields such as robotics, data visualization, hardware, and design, encouraging creativity and interdisciplinary problem-solving. Since 2020, the hackathon has grown into a key event for fostering innovation and collaboration in Sri Lanka. It continues to inspire participants to contribute to the global space industry with groundbreaking ideas and technical expertise, creating a vibrant community of innovators.
