Established in 1994, the National Bar Council of South Africa (NBCSA) is a prestigious voluntary association of advocates, with a footprint in all nine provinces of the Republic of South Africa. The NBCSA is a recognised Bar Council and accredited by the Legal Practice Council to provide Practical Vocational Training. We are dedicated to promoting Equality, Transformation, and the Rule of Law. Governed by a diligent Bar Council and under the oversight of the Legal Practice Council (LPC), we ensure the highest levels of accountability and professional standards among our members. Our advocates, admitted by the High Court of South Africa and enrolled with the LPC, adhere strictly to the LPC’s Code of Conduct. Each of our members is a specialist in litigation, fitting into one of two categories as mandated by the Legal Practice Act: Referral Advocates - Operating under section 34(2)(a)(i) of the LPA, focusing on receiving cases referred by other legal professionals and organs of state; and Trust Account Advocates - Governed by section 34(2)(a)(ii) of the LPA, authorised to hold client funds in trust accounts. The NBCSA aligns its principles with the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014 and aims to uphold the highest standards of professional integrity, independence, and excellence. We are committed to advancing the legal profession and ensuring that our members are exemplary in their practice.
