National Libraries and Information System Authority

The National Library and Information System Authority is a corporate body established by the NALIS Act No. 18 of 1998 to administer the development and coordination of library and information services in Trinidad and Tobago. With the Heritage Library, 24 public libraries (in Trinidad), four mobile libraries -- with visits to 140 locations and four libraries in correctional institutions, NALIS makes easily accessible to members of the public a library and information service in order to facilitate cultural, economic, educational, political and social development of the people of Trinidad and Tobago (Act No 18 of 1998, Part II, 4a). Additionally, and in accordance with the NALIS Act (1998), NALIS has entered into arrangements with several Ministries and the Tobago House of Assembly. NALIS Staff provides professional services to 27 Government Agencies and 134 Secondary Schools. The Authority's headquarters is located in the renowned National Library of Trinidad and Tobago, Located at Hart and Abercromby Streets, Port of Spain. This facility was opened to the public in 2003. The National Library and Information System Authority falls under the remit of the Office of the Prime Minister-Communications whose Minister is the Honourable Symon de Nobriga
