NATURELAB EU Project

NATURELAB is a Research and Innovation Actions project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe Programme. The project aims to explore the potential of nature-based interventions for improving health and well-being. It focuses on developing nature-based therapies (NBT) that promote well-being, support health prevention, and aid in rehabilitation. Led by Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC, Portugal), the project involves 12 Partners and 2 Associated partners from six countries, including Portugal, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Peru, United Kingdom. The project's total duration is 54 months, starting in June 2023, and will be allocated a substantial budget of 5.839.880,20 euros. The main objective of NATURELAB is to increase recognition, promotion, and utilization of green and blue spaces as providers of care. The project aims to investigate the benefits of nature-based therapies and develop scientifically validated programs that facilitate individuals in connecting with nature according to their specific needs. NATURELAB will engage approximately 4,000 participants across 15 Experimental Sites and 4 Demonstrator Fellows located in rural, coastal, and urban areas of five European and Latin American countries. The participants will represent a diverse range of genders, ages, and socioeconomic statuses. The selected geographic locations encompass a variety of climates, nature (green and blue), ecosystems, biodiversity, cultural contexts, and policy and administrative scenarios. The project will address various health conditions, including physical ailments like hypertension and mental health issues such as depression.
